FAQ - Substance Drug Test Kits

Question: Why there is a need for testing a substance suspected as drug?
Answer: The web is filled with many drug test kits for body fluids, like urine and saliva. However, there is a need for qualified drug testing kits for testing suspected substances such as drugs.

Question: How do the substance drug test kits work?
Answer: The drug testing kit is based on a color reaction procedure. Color reactions are chemical reactions which produce colored products.
Identification of a compound or a group of compounds by color reaction is one of the oldest and simplest methods in analytical chemistry. It is based on the fact that a specific compound or a group of compounds, when treated by an appropriate reagent (often called "color reagent"), produce a color which is characteristic of this compound or group of compounds. The drug testing kit detects the presence of the drug. The color reagent solution reacts with the suspected drug. Test results in case of positive identification are characterized by the appearance of intense colors clearly visible in the reaction chamber.

Question: What kind of substances should the kits be used on?
Answer: The kits should be used on mainly powders or tablets. These kits are to test trace amount that you are able to see with the naked eye.

Question: Is it safe to use a chemical test?
Answer: IDenta Corp. kits are extremely safe for use, as there is no direct contact with the chemical components in the test. All of the test reagents are contained within crushable glass ampoules in specially designed protective plastic casing. The entire test is performed in a completely sealed system.

Question: Why is there a precautionary note in the enclosed manual?
Answer: Because the Marijuana, Ecstasy and Cocaine (identification step) kits contain a few drops of acid.
Marijuana kit contains 0.5 ml of 32% hydrochloric acid that is diluted by application of the kit to ~ 13%.
Cocaine kit contains 0.4 ml of 15% hydrochloric acid that is diluted by the application of the kit to ~ 7%.
Ecstasy kit contains 0.5 ml of ~ 80% sulfuric acid that is diluted by application of the kit to ~ 15%. Solutions for household purposes in the US, mostly cleaning, are typically 10% to 12% hydrochloric acid and sold in gallons…
The General screening kit contains 0.5 ml of neutral aqueous solution and 0.5 ml of non-hazardous organic solvent. Therefore there is no need for any precaution.

Question: Why is there a dilution step in the Ecstasy kit?
Answer: Because there is a need to reduce the acid concentration to non – hazardous one before throwing it to the trash.

Question: Why is there a precautionary note for color reaction kits when there are just a few drops of acid in them and they are in closed cases?
Answer: These are standard regulations. You can find the same or similar regulations on standard household cleaning supplies sold in supermarkets.

Question: Are there differences in the operation of the four kits?
Answer: Each detector test unit operates in the same basic manner, with subtle differences for each of the four detector types. Samples are collected by removing the sampler from the test unit, contacting the sample with the adhesive sampler tip, replacing the sampler in the applicator cradle, crushing the reagent ampules contained within the test unit, gently shaking the entire test unit, and watching for a color change.

Question: What can be detected by the different testing kits?
Answer: Our tests can be used to determine the presence of the following illicit drugs: Cocaine/crack, Brown Heroin, Marijuana ,Ecstasy and General Screening for the possible presence of drug.

Question: Are these chemical tests reliable?
Answer: Yes, highly reliable because our rapid drug tests are very specific.
Marijuana:
The identification of marijuana with the marijuana kit is the same procedure that is done in a forensic laboratory. This test is called the Duquenois – Levine test. It is a two stage test – identification and confirmation and is conducted in one case. This test practically has no false positives.
Cocaine/crack:
This test is based on two stages – identification and confirmation, using two casings. The identification step alone cannot serve as a color reagent for the identification of cocaine because some other substances have similar response characteristics. The confirmation test discriminates between cocaine and the other substances.
Ecstasy:
Ecstasy has a unique chemical structure. Analog drugs such as MDA, MDEA or MBDB have the same basic chemical structure. The color test is a novel test for this structure. All substances that share this common structure are illicit drugs and will react with the same color test.

Question: Can one testing kit detect many drugs?
Answer: No, it cannot. Each drug needs a specific test. However, we do offer a general screening test kit, which detects the presence of 21 different illicit drugs. There is a common feature in many drugs and pharmaceuticals. When the suspected drug is a powder and there is a positive color reaction, it strongly indicates the presence of illicit drugs, because pharmaceuticals are not sold as powders.

Question: What is the sensitivity of the testing kits?
Answer: The cut-off of the Marijuana test is in the milligram range, while for general screening, Cocaine and Ecstasy is in the micro gram range.

Question: Do you have more types of drug testing kits?
Answer: We have a wide range of drug testing products to offer, but as of now we offer these four products for household use. We have additional testing kits for other drugs. You can view our full line in our catalog in the About us section. If there is a special request for one of these kits, we can supply it.

Question: Is drug substance testing simple?
Answer: Yes, it is. This simple operation does not require training. All you need is to sample the suspected substance, load and lock sampler in place, activate and read result in seconds.

Question: Is it easy to follow the test procedures?
Answer: It is very easy, just follow the enclosed instructions.

Question: Why should I use this drug test?
Answer: You can use a drug test to ensure privacy. This is very useful in a variety of situations – at home, school and working place.

Question: What are the methods of "At home" drug testing today?
Answer: You can determine the presence of drugs in a person’s body by testing his urine, blood, saliva or hair. This is conducted by use of a biological immunoassay kits. However, suspected substances like drugs are tested by chemical color tests, the most established method of testing for substance used by law enforcement agencies. Because of the reliability and safety of IDenta Corp. kits, our kits are a preferred method of choice.

Question: How accurate are the drug testing kits?
Answer: Our products are highly reliable. If there is a need, it is always advisable to get results confirmed by a laboratory. However, laboratory procedures are expensive, take time and there is usually less privacy. In case of negative color test, there is no need for confirmation by laboratory.

Question: What methods do laboratories use to confirm drug presence?
Answer: Reliable identification of drugs in a modern forensic laboratory is based on instrumental techniques, mainly spectrometric, often in conjunction with chromatographic methods. Gas (Chromatography- Mass) Spectrometry (GC/MS) is considered to be an excellent and reliable method in forensic analysis, including the analysis of drugs. However, this involves going there and giving your suspected substance to have it tested.
There is one exception. Forensic laboratory identify Marijuana/Hashish only by color test. Combination of color test with the characteristic form of Marijuana/Hashish confirms the presence of Marijuana/Hashish.

Question: Can the result of these color tests hold up in court?
Answer: No, except for the Marijuana/Hashish test. You must have a more specific test like the GS/MS test done for it to hold up in court. However, in case of a negative color test, there is no need for confirmation by GC/MS, because the negative color test excludes the presence of the suspected drug.
